How do companys who make cosmetology mannequins get the human hair they use?

Can you answer Andi W’s question about Displays?:

I have always wondered where they get the hair that they use for these mannequins. The hair is the same on all of the heads which makes me think it might be lab-grown. I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the net either!

Displays Feedback: The majority of mannequin heads used in Beauty Schools are made with synthetic hair. All other real human hair mannequins stem from European & Asian country hair sources. In many countries in Europe and Asia, people sell their hair to make extra money and income.

Displays Feedback: I’m not sure exactly where they get it from, but the hair is not lab grown. I don’t think they can do that. I know that they boil the hair and then dye it with a dye that is not like ones used in the beauty industry usually. The hair is modified to be all the same on each doll head, but you can get doll heads in all textures and colors. I’ve heard that it is donated and collected, but that doesn’t really make sense because there is SO MUCH hair out there on mannequin heads.

Displays Feedback: The ones used in beauty school are made of real human hair and they come from Asia/India. The ones from India are donated so it comes with goodwill, not exploited. The hair are sanitized and treated to make them all look uniform in color, length & texture.

Displays Feedback: I believe they get them from dead people, you know, corpses.
